Colour Correcting 101

What is Colour Correcting?

Colour Correcting is a makeup technique which uses different coloured products to neutralise the undertone of the skin or parts of the skin to help it ‘blend’ with the rest of the skin tone. For example, grey or purple under the eye, redness in the cheeks, brown or yellow pigmentation on the skin

Why do it?

If different colour undertones are left on the skin without correction, they can often affect the colour of your foundation or concealer, in effect the undertone can ‘shine through’. For Example, concealer can dry down to look a little grey or sometimes green if it is placed directly over dark circles. By colour correcting first you are neutralising the area and allowing your foundation or concealer to provide the coverage you need.

Using the colour wheel, identify the colour you want to correct (primary) and use a the opposite colour product to correct it (complementary)

How do I do it?

It doesn’t have to be complicated or add extra time to your routine. Have a look at your skin and identify the colour of the areas you want to correct. Correct these areas with your chosen products after your skin care and before your face makeup.

What products do I use?

Dark Circles:

The Bobbi Brown Colour Corrector is the one I use most frequently to correct dark circles

Choose your colour based on how dark your dark circles are.

I use Light/Medium bisque or Light Peach most often.

If your dark circles are very dark or you have a deeper skin tone you may wish to choose a deeper tone.

Tap this product over your dark circles and use a light layer of your concealer afterwards.

Redness:

A green base colour corrector such a this Rosalique Miracle Formula can be used as a primer after skin care and before foundation.

Make sure to tap and press the product across your areas of redness until the red areas are neutralised.

The Eborian CC Red Correct is a lovely lightweight formula which is good for light toned redness and is formulated like a skincare product so it does not feel heavy on the skin.

You can purchase a travel size tube of this to try

Either of these products can be worn alone
